Platelet Rich Plasma - PRP

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy uses injections of a concentration of a patient’s own platelets to accelerate the healing of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints. In this way, PRP injections use each individual patient's own healing system to improve musculoskeletal problems.

There is growing evidence of the benefit of platelet rich plasma to help with both osteoarthritis and degenerative tendinopathies.

They have a pro-inflammatory affect, to promote healing, and may delay the need for operative intervention, and also negate possible side effects of steroids.

PRP has higher concentrations of platelets along with white blood cells. It contains numerous cytokines which can promote healing.

PRP is given into the target tissue, and like all our injections is given under ultra sound guidance.

You may experience some discomfort following the injection, ad occasionally a flare of symptoms for a short time.
